Australia's Biggest Morning Tea

Today I had the absolute pleasure of joining in one of the many 'Australia's Biggest Morning Teas'.

Hosted by the Cancer Council. It is something close to my heart. My mum lost her battle with cancer back in 1991. A long time ago really but at times it can seem just like yesterday.

A very kind lady opened her home and laid on such a wonderful feast for everyone. There was about 34 grown ups, about 16 children plus a gaggle of gorgeous babies. My two boys had a wonderful morning. A bit overhwhelmed with all the tasty food on offer. Their eyes were definitely bigger than their stomachs!

Just one of the tables of goodies

I was lucky enough to pick up a few of the prizes. One being a bottle of Pink, a bottle stopper and some coasters all in a very gorgeous pink carry case.

How cute is that case?

Our hostess was hoping to raise $500. If I find out I will update and let you know the final total raised.

If you ever get the chance to go along to a morning tea or to host one yourself please do. It helps the Cancer Council raise money for vital work in research, prevention and support.

Cancer Council Helpline number is 13 11 20.

Things I Know...

I know that what can seem like an insurmountable problem one week can almost disappear the next. Sometimes all that is needed is a bit of time and things have a way of working out.

I know that there are teachers and then there are Teachers. Bethany's teacher this year is Angela Massingham. She is just wonderful. She doesn't push Bethany beyond what she can do, but at the same time realises what an incredibly gifted girl she is.

I know that within two hours of filling up the sand pit with sand there will be sand all over the garden, all over the floor, on the stairs and in all the beds.

I know 'now' that the Joshua playing in the sandpit with a hoodie on is a very bad idea. The hood turns into a sand collector and will then be emptied out into the cot when I lay him down for his nap!

I know that I am excited to be attending an Australia's Biggest Morning Tea next Thursday!

I know that some people are so open minded that their brains have fallen out.

I know that when you find a friend, you should hold on to them with both hands.

GogoBot - Planning a Trip Can Be Fun

GogoBot believe that planning a trip should be almost as fun as the trip itself!

GogoBot is available from the App store and from GogoBot it is a great place to go to get information, advice, help, tips and recommendations about places for your next holiday.

It is a place where you can go to get friends and other travellers reviews and pictures about a certain place. People can go online and share their good and bad experiences. You can organise your trip and see all the cool things about a city, know the good and interesting places to see, while filtering out the bad. It is clever, relevant and useful.

If you were planning a trip to Buffalo in New York State. You can get an overview, a description, reviews, top Buffalo hotels, top things to do, top restaurants, nearby cities. You can then add it to your travel itinerary, or put it on your wish list for later.

Check prices for hotels, resorts, B&Bs, guesthouses. See what other visitors thought of the place and check what rating they have given it.

The beauty of this app is that the reviews are given by other travellers and your friends and not by some unknown travel writer or someone you have nothing in common with.

It is well worth checking out.

My Furry Therapist

Cats are great therapy!

Any animal really. As I type this I have my cat 'Snuggles' on my lap. Now typing with a rather long cat on one's lap is rather difficult. But it is worth it.

The medical world is slowly coming to the realisation that a patient who is ill will recuperate faster if they have contact with a dog or cat.

The PAT (pets as therapy) cats and dogs are animals that go into hospitals, special needs schools, aged care homes, and basically do what they do best - give unconditional love, purrs and comfort to those in need.

I love my cats. Running your hands over their soft fur, hearing them purr, makes you relax, makes you get things into perspective, does your heart good.

Life is so much better because we have these furry little critters to share our days with. I am such an animal lover. I have enjoyed the company of 8 felines in my life. All with their distinct personalities or should that be purrrsonalities!

Are you an animal lover? If not then you can leave now.... No stay and I will try and convert you.

For someone like me who has suffered from depression for more than half my life now, cats help. As a very wise soul once said "A meow massages the heart".

My cats are my friends, always there, always ready for a tummy rub or a head scratch. Time spent with a cat is never wasted.

What makes you happy?

It is good for me to focus on the good things in my life and to think about what makes me happy.

I can get into a more positive frame of mind.

So I thought I would list the things that make me happy. This is a personal list and I do realise that what makes me happy may not be what makes another person happy and also what makes me happy today might change next week.

Ok, in no particular order:

Happiness is my cat curling up on my lap and purring.

Happiness is having the lawn mowed.

Happiness is night time when I have four sleeping beauties.

Happiness is sleeping all night.

Happiness is having a warm, relaxing bath.

Happiness is coffee.

Happiness is having four clean kids with freshly washed hair.

Happiness is a clean house.

Happiness is happy kids.

Happiness is seeing a rainbow.

Happiness is being surrounded by good friends.

Happiness is looking up into a night sky full of stars, with a bright and full moon.

Happiness is doing something for someone in need.

Happiness is being appreciated.

Please feel free to add your own in the comments. What makes you happy?

Yumbums - All Natural Bottom Balm For Bubs

Product Talk by Nuffnang - This is not a paid post and I received an item in exchange for a review.

My youngest little man Joshua, has sensitive skin. At nappy change time he always needs some sort of barrier cream and if I miss it out a few times his poor little bot can become red very quickly.

I was sent some Yumbums All Natural Bottom Balm for Bubs.

When I opened it up I noticed straight away that this is a completely natural and organic balm. No sweet smelling perfumed fragrances, no synthetic unnatural colours. Yumbums contains no artificial, toxic or irritating petrochemicals, parabens, sulphates, synthetic fragrances or colours. Only the highest quality natural and organic substances are used.

It has been formulated by a qualified naturopath Gali Lenko and is completely Australian made and owned. Gali originally made it for her family and friends' babies as a gift, but she was thrilled with the results.

Some of the key ingredients used are:
  • Organic Olive Oil to moisturise and soothe delicate skin.
  • Organic Coconut Oil which helps to hydrate and clean.
  • Organic Beeswax which is great for a protective barrier.
  • Lots of lovely herbal extracts like Calendula, Chamomile, Golden Seal, and Licorice root. They have been chosen for their skin healing properties and to make dry, itchy, hot skin feel soothed, relieved and cool.

I immediately used it on Josh's sore bottom on his last nappy change for the night. In the morning his skin looked normal and had no redness at all and I had a happy boy again!

Yumbums can also be used for any irritated skin conditions such as eczema in both adults and children. Its ingredients are naturally anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and extremely healing to the skin.

It retails for $18.50 for a 50ml jar and you can buy it online or find out more at www.yumbums.com.au.
