Tiny Teddy Racing Cars

My girls and I had a lot of fun making these Tiny Teddy racing cars yesterday.

Miss 7 shared them with her class at school for an assignment and she did a PowerPoint presentation. I think they worked out well and we were proud of them.

Win 1 of 10 Dr Seuss' The Lorax DVDs {Giveaway}

I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees. I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.

Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Australia is celebrating the release of Dr Seuss' The Lorax! Available to rent or buy on Blu-ray and DVD next Wednesday, August 1.

Dr Seuss' The Lorax

From the makers of Despicable Me, this light hearted but cautionary tale is a fun, colourful, 3D adventure. It tells the story of the Lorax, a tree loving, rather grumpy, but inherently likeable character who talks to us about the importance of sustainability. It follows the story of a young boy who is on a mission to search for the one thing that will win him the affection of the girl of his dreams.

Can We Save Ourselves Time, Money and Hassles?

A very wise person once said 'Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you marshmallows, which is kind of the same thing', or something a bit like that!

Sometimes because of a lack of time I choose the more expensive options - the premade salads, the shop bought biscuits, the pre-packaged vegies and fruit. Sometimes it is the first thing I come to instead searching for the better choices. I know I can manage my time and money better by planning ahead a bit more.

Do you have a kitchen cupboard full of nifty appliances, that at the time you just had to have but now you never use anymore? Or did you buy the latest and greatest exercise machine use it for a week or two and then it is pushed to the back of the cupboard to gather dust. I have been guilty of that.

Have a look at this fun and somewhat quirky video. Proving that given a bit of encouragement people will pay more for exactly the same product. Just click on the link below.

I loved the bit at the beginning with the chest expander!

What are some of your time and money saving tips? Are you like me and buy things that never get used again? We are all so busy aren't we? But sometimes it does save us time and money to search out the better way to do things.

Catching Up With Friends {Giveaway}

What sort of things do you do when you get together with your friends?

Do you like going to a café to grab a coffee? Or do you like having a get together and a bit of morning tea at a friends house? Having a bit of a catch up while watching the kids play at the park is enjoyable too.

We all lead such busy lives don't we? But I am sure that you agree that finding the time to get together with our friends is very important for us as wives, mothers and women. As women we need to talk about things don't we? We need to share our thoughts and our problems. Have a listening ear and a friendly, warm hug from those that are dear to us.

To have someone there to share a coffee with, to talk to, to unwind and relax and enjoy one anothers company, helps us to cope and gives us renewed energy to tackle our busy lives again.

I know that personally catching up with friends helps keep me focused and ready to face whatever comes my way.

WilderQuest - Children in Nature

I love my kids getting out in the great outdoors. Fresh air, sunshine, exercise. It is all good. Children need 'free' time where they can just be kids. Playing, having fun and just enjoying being outside. Australia has such a beautiful natural landscape and it is all there on our doorstep. Let's explore this great country and help our kids with play based learning through imagination and adventure!

NSW Nationals Parks and Wildlife Services (NPWS) encourages families to allow kids ‘time out’ to play, better their health and well being and create a life-long connection with the natural environment.

The Children in Nature campaign addresses the issues surrounding the decline in outdoor play and rise in indoor screen time for children and highlights how this affects children’s social, physical and mental development. In conjunction with this wonderful initiative the campaign has put up a brand new website that takes this journey from the screen to the great outdoors. They have also launched a free iPad app – downloadable via the iTunes store.

itunes.apple.com/us/app/wilderquest-nature-discovery

The app and the website focus on practical and educational learning for children 5-8 years old. Emphasis is placed on helping Australian children become comfortable and fascinated by nature and the environment that is all around them.

This app is a lot of fun. I played it first, then my 7 and 9 year olds played it and then my husband just had to have a go too! The sounds of the rainforest are just beautiful and you can close your eyes and imagine you are right there in amongst the trees. You search for 16 different rainforest animals and birds over three levels and when you spot them you can take a picture. When you have found the animals it will take you to an information screen, where you can hear what the animal sounds like, see a short video or some pictures and lots of other info too.

This app is unique. Move the iPad around, take a few steps and more will be revealed. Just amazing stuff. We loved it!

You can find the website at www.wilderquest.nsw.gov.au

This site is a fun, engaging place for kids. It helps to teach them about Australian animals and places in a colourful and kid friendly way. They follow 'Ranger Sam' through a series of games and activities. This friendly and adventurous guide inspires young players and offers encouragement along the way. Ranger Sam leads by example and cares for the environment and his friends. Some of the gorgeous characters to pop up include Pug the Echidna, Bandit the Bowerbird, Spot the Quoll and Attivus the Possum.

If we want to reach our children and spark their interest in getting back outside and experiencing nature then we need to contact them in the media they are using. If this is media that can be used in nature, like for example iPads then this is going that one step further to bridging the gap between indoors and outdoors.

Helping kids get out there and involved with nature is crucial to getting kids to care for environmental issues. Those that take an active part and are interested are far more likely to express concern about water issues, air pollution, climate change and things that will affect them as they grow older and this will help protect our wonderful environment for years to come.

Things I Know and Some I Wish I Didn't!

I know that this post is going to be an intense one and I apologise.

I know that I am made of incredibly strong stuff. A lot of people don't realise because I am so quiet but I have a very strong mind and I am quite stubborn, which I must admit I quite like about myself. This doesn't mean that I find life easy at all. I struggle on a daily basis.

But I know that I will never completely lose it. There are times when I sit in a corner and cry but I will always stop, regroup, refocus. I know that I have let go of a bit of tension and I will get up again and carry on again.

I know that sometimes I have to take it an hour at a time. Just to get through the day.

I know that still waters run very, very deep. But with my deep thoughts, comes a knowledge of myself.

I know that my children are wonderful human beings.

I know that I am a winter person entirely. I love the colder weather. I like rain. I like the thought of cuddling up with a hot drink and a good book and listening to the rain on the tin roof. Maybe one day my kids will actually let me do that!

What things do you know this week?

Ava the Elephant - Talking Medicine Dispenser {Review}

Do you need the services of Mary Poppins when it comes to getting your children to take some medicine?

I met a very cute little elephant called Ava that can help.  When I opened up the box for the first time, my two year old Joshua, gave a huge smile and his little face just lit up. Ava was an instant hit with him. He even gave her a cuddle.

Ava the Elephant, liquid medicine dispenser

She has a sweet little face and voice and is soft to touch. Her soft ears makes excellent handles! When the button on the back of the head is pressed she says "One, two, three, Open wide! Good job!"

To 'operate' all you have to do is:
  • Fill the 5ml dropper with the medicine to the desired amount.
  • Insert the dropper into the trunk of Ava until it's secure.
  • Push the button on the back to hear her talk.
  • Place the end of the trunk into the child's mouth.
  • Somewhere between the "Open wide!" and "Good job!" you press the bulb of the dropper until all the medicine is dispensed.

It is top rack dishwasher safe and you remove the back of the head to avoid getting the sound box and batteries wet while washing. It is BPA and Phthalate free.

My kids just love her! She went missing from my desk and I found Joshua playing with her in his bedroom.

This is an excellent product. Something that helps make taking medicine easier and less stressful for our little ones and their mums and dads has to be a good thing.

Qubies - A New Aussie Product That Saves Mum's Time, Money and Stress

I have been trying an absolutely wonderful new product called Qubies. Qubies are specifically designed to freeze and store breast milk and baby food into convenient 30ml cubes. But they are so much more!

Qubies, Food Freezing Tray, breast milk, baby food

The aim of Qubies is to save Mum’s time, money and stress and ensure babies only get the best in terms of fresh ‘additive & preservative free’ foods.

Qubies was designed by Australian mum Alexandra Wardle. As a new mum she was frustrated trying to get baby food out of those plastic ice cube trays. So she came up with a better way.

Qubies, baby food, pumpkin

These are so easy to use! You pour your baby food into the base of the Qubies and fill it to the line. Pop the lid on and freeze. When you need to use it, using both hands you give the container a small twist and it releases the cubes - first time every time. Peel the lid back and the 30ml cubes come out so easily. Please see the video at the bottom of the page to see how easy and simple it is.

What a great idea! Of course you can freeze whatever you want to.

  • Baby food
  • Breast milk
  • Stock
  • Pesto
  • Tomato puree
  • Herbs
  • Water
  • Sauces
  • Lemon/Lime juice
  • Plus lots more.

Qubies, passionfruit

Qubies has been proud to be winner and runner up in a number of awards, including:

2010 Winner for the Telstra Business Women’s Awards 2010 for Nokia Product Innovation
2012 Runner Up for the My Child Excellence Award (feeding)
2010 Finalist in the AusMumpreneur Awards – category of Product Innovation
2010 GCGhOV Star of Excellence (Gold Coast Grapevine House of Vitner)

The RRP is $19.95 and they are available in blue, green and introducing a gorgeous new PINK colour.

All stockists are listed on the Qubies website: www.qubies.com.au

Who Would Like a Coffee?

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a bit partial to a cup of coffee.

The lovely people at Nescafé have very generously sent me some of their new Nescafé Café Menu varieties to enjoy and to share with my friends.

Coffee, Mocha, Caramel, Latte, Cappuccino, Vanilla, Nescafe

To tempt you, to choose from there is Cappuccino, Cappuccino Skim and Cappuccino Strong. The fun and extra delicious thing about the Cappuccino varieties is that it comes with a small Chocolate Shaker in the box. This helps to make it extra yummy and gives you that café feel.

There is also Latté , Vanilla Latté, Caramel Latté and Hazelnut Latté, for the Latté lovers among us. Mocha and Mocha Skim for those who like a bit of chocolate with their coffee.

I tried the Cappuccino Strong first. It was creamy and delicious.

Next I tried the Caramel Latté. The moment the tube was opened, I was hit with the gorgeous smell of caramel, which only got stronger when the hot water was poured over the top. It was another success.

I am very impressed so far. If you see me around and would like a taste, just let me know and I can give you a sample.

In a while I will be hosting a give away and I would like you to think about the importance of catching up with your friends. As busy mums, catching up with friends can sometimes seem like an impossible task between school runs, shopping, cleaning and cooking.

Let's reconnect, share a laugh and some stories while enjoying a cup of delicious coffee!
