The Chocolate Diet....

Does that sound like just a bit of an oxymoron to you? Diet and Chocolate – not two things that usually go together.

I have to admit that after four babies, my stomach isn't what is used to be. I would say I am about 10 kilos over my healthy weight range. My metabolism seems to be slowing down as I get older and it is much harder to lose weight and my love of chocolate is very well known, ask anyone!

So when I heard about The Chocolate Diet’ Body Transformation/Weight Loss Challenge for people wanting to lose about 5-10 kilos in 8 weeks. I thought it sounded like my sort of diet. 5-10 kilos in 8 weeks sounds very do-able and not faddish like a lot of diets out there, and I get to still eat chocolate. Bonus!!

So let’s do this.

Some of my goals for the next eight weeks are:

  • Lose at least 10 kilos.
  • Have a bit more energy.
  • Have a plan of eating healthy food, staying away from sweet foods and fast food.
  • Take responsibility for my actions and what I eat.
  • Stay focused on what I want to accomplish.
  • Visualise success.

It recommends that I replace two meals a day with a yummy cocoa rich Belgian Chocolate Indulgence shake or the Chocolate Berry Flambé shake, and every day I can have a chocolate treat. Yummo! This program is gluten free; low in lactose; high protein; and low carbohydrates. The shakes are thick and satisfying. You can mix the chocolate powder with skim milk for a creamier drink or water. You can also make yourself a hot chocolate drink too.

The program recommends still eating 3 healthy option 'real food' meals a day. Something like this.

Breakfast - Chocolate Shake
Mid Morning - Healthy Snack
Lunch -Chocolate Shake
Mid Afternoon - Healthy Snack
Dinner -Healthy dinner option from the program guide
Evening - Piece of Chocolate or dessert from the program guide.

The health benefits of a good quality dark chocolate is beginning to be realised. Dark chocolate is rich in poly-phenol rich cocoa. It can boost metabolism, by helping to burn fat; it is a good source of antioxidants, that can help boost heart function; lower blood pressure; lowers cholesterol; and stimulates the feel good hormones in our brain that can improve our mood and well-being.

In my next post I will try out some of the delicious recipes that are outlined in the program guide and will let you know how they turn out.
