Giving is Good for the Soul - A Mister Minit Giveaway

Giving is good for the soul. It helps you to think outside your own problems and helps you think of another person - their likes, what makes them happy, what they need or what would bring them joy and make them smile.

Being unselfish and generous goes towards making you a good person, deep down on the inside, were it counts. Do you think so as well?

To make another person happy, well it makes you happy too.  To show others that you are thinking about them and appreciate them, even if it is something small, to them it may be huge, and it might make all the difference to them.

Of course it doesn’t need to be something expensive, or even cost you anything at all. A handmade gift, a bunch of flowers, a chocolate cake. Or even your time. An hour spent visiting someone who is not well, or going through a hard time. Some time and effort spent doing some gardening for an elderly person or even just a phone call to let someone know you are thinking of them. It all goes towards making someone else feel good.

Give in the right spirit too. Straight from your heart. Give and don’t expect something back in return. If something comes back to you, then that is lovely to know that they were thinking of you too. But if it doesn’t then be joyful in the knowledge that you made someone else’s day better.

Guess what?

It is time for a...

Save With Jamie - Shop Smart, Cook Clever, Waste Less

Books and reading are a passion of mine, as you can see in my article Are We Becoming Illiterate?. Something that I don’t get enough time for is escaping into a good book. It is one of the pleasures in life. There is always a great adventure just waiting to happen when you get a new book and open it to Chapter One.

You can let your imagination fly as the words weave a story around you.

A wise person once said “Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers”.

Do you enjoy reading? Who are your favourite authors?

With the holidays fast coming up are you on the lookout for a couple of good books to read and enjoy? My kids all love to read, which I am very thankful for. I hope you got to read my article called 10 ways to encourage a love of reading in children.

As a busy Mum at the moment, I don’t get a lot of free time to get involved in a novel. That time will come again for me, but the books that I do love at the moment are Cookbooks. Especially with small children I am always on the lookout for tasty, cheap, easy meals that I can whip up and that my young family will eat and enjoy and would like me to cook again.

A book that really has caught my attention is Save With Jamie, Shop Smart, Cook Clever, Waste Less. A book filled with money saving meals and written by the awesome Jamie Oliver. I must admit I am a bit of a fan.

This book is about cooking nutritious and tasty meals on a budget. It shows you how to make better choices when shopping, how to buy economically and efficiently, how to save time and prevent food being wasted and also how to get the most out of the ingredients that you do have.

Everyone seems to be under some financial pressure at the moment. The beauty of this book is that all the recipes it contains are cheaper per portion than your average take away meal. This book doesn’t compromise either. The recipes inside have big flavours; contain colourful, optimistic dishes; comfort foods that make you feel happy.

These recipes are uncomplicated but also very creative to make as well. A big bonus is the many ideas on how you can use the leftovers that you may already have.

Jamie’s hints and tips in this book are definitely worth a read. As Jamie himself says:

How can time-poor people shop smarter?
There are loads of strategies you can put into place to help you shop smarter, but if you're looking to save time, I'd say stocking up on staples that have a long shelf-life is key - really, it's like laying the foundations, and will mean that you only need to pick up a few seasonal bits and pieces to make something really delicious. Embracing leftovers is also a great time saver - invest a bit of time on the weekend and you'll massively reap the rewards in the week when you're busy - super-tasty meals for very little effort.

As an added bonus for my readers, I can offer you a 5% discount off any hard copy or CD Audio book from Bookworld. The code is BW-SEO14 and this is valid until 31 January, 2014.

You can also receive an additional 10% off if you sign up to be a Bookworld Citizen. It is free to join. (there is more info here -

This means a total of 15% off any hard copy or CD book that you order through Bookworld. There is Free Delivery on everything that you order and delivery is super quick.

For a book lover like me, that is just awesome.

Menulog - No. 1 For Online Takeaway {Review}

There are days when you are so busy running here, there, and everywhere, when you finally get home and get to relax, the last thing you feel like doing is cooking and you would love a good takeaway meal but going out again isn’t high on your list. What do you do about dinner?

I was excited to learn of a website called Menulog. Have you heard about this hassle free, online takeaway website? It finds the restaurants in your area that provide home delivery. It was very cool to find three Asian takeaways that I didn’t realise provided home delivery to my address. It makes searching for your favourite restaurant or favourite cuisine or even your favourite dish so very easy and a lot of fun.

Menulog has a huge range of restaurant selections. Over 2000 Australia wide. As well as literally thousands of reviews available. The website is completely mobile thanks to the nifty Menulog app which is available for iPhone or Android.

Ordering a delicious meal is very easy to do, and it is free to use. They do not mark up the restaurant prices in any way, they provide first customer discounts of up to 30%, loyalty discounts such as order 7 times and the eighth time is free, plus many other specials.

You can choose Delivery or Pickup. You can see at a glance what the minimum order for delivery is, the speed they deliver and the promotions and specials they have going at the moment. You get to see the restaurant’s menu and the price list at a glance.

I think it would be great to use when you are on holiday. Just enter your postcode and find a fast and easy way to order takeaway online for your family.

When you just want to relax and enjoy a meal that you didn’t cook yourself, with the added bonus of having it delivered to your door, this all combines to make Menulog number 1 for online takeaway convenience.
